Skylark and his uncle form the spine of the brewing rebellion, and they have a secret weapon: the king has one living heir, a daughter no one else knows about. If they can place her on the throne, she could be the queen the kingdom needs; one who is gentle, kind, and obedient to the suggestions of her council.
Instead, they get Indigo, a brash, feral child with outsized magic, no social graces, and no desire to be anybody's puppet. When the task of shaping Indigo for the throne falls on Skylark, tension and sparks explode between the two of them, but the tug-of-war between Indigo and Skylark over the future of the kingdom threatens to ruin not only their relationship, but the rebellion as a whole.
